This beach park is known to locals as Pohioki and is located at the edge of Pohoiki Bay, in the Puna district of the Big Island. Oceanfront park facilities include rest rooms and picnic areas. It’s a good place for an afternoon nap but can be dangerous for swimming. Strong waves make this a popular place for local surfers, but can make it rough for swimmers. There is a boat launch ramp and a man made break water.
If the weather and ocean conditions are calm, there is good snorkeling nearby. There are shady trees and grassy areas surrounding this bay. Facilities include restrooms, picnic tables, and a picnic pavilion here.
Directions: The park is off Highway 137, north of junction with Highway 132. Take Highway 130 south from Pahoa. When it dead ends at Highway 137, turn right. This Park is on the left, near Mile Marker #11. Puna District, PHONE: 808/961-8311. View map.
