Here are some of our favorite restaurants in Hilo
Ocean Sushi Deli Ocean Sushi Deli has fantastic sushi. They offer a wide ranging menu with a local Hawaiian twist - don't forget to try the Big Island Roll! Prices are reasonable and Ocean Sushi is located right downtown in Hilo. Ayuthaya II Thai Restaurant For an authentic Thai experience, make sure you dine at Ayuthaya. Their Thai delicacies are always fresh, spicy on request, and reasonably priced. Kalbi Express This is a Korean lunch-counter restaurant in the Waiakea Food Court Pavilion near Wal-Mart. Food with Island flair, very reasonably priced. Freddies Manono Mini Mart Manono Mini Mart is a lunch counter deli that has a great variety of fresh sandwiches. This is a perfect place to pick up your lunch on the go - on the way to the beach or the volcano. Cafe Pesto: Hilo Hilo is a very old area and Care Pesto is the nicest
restaurant around. They offer a variety of italian style dishes, from
pasta to salad to chicken. The prices range from approximately $10 to
$20 and although the setting is somewhat crowded, the food is very
good. Seaside Restaurant and Aqua Farm This is currently the best restaurant in town. It is called "Aqua
Farm" because it has its own fishpond where some of the fish offerings
are raised. Open only for dinner, and you'd better have reservations.
(Closed Mon.) Obviously, features seafood, but also has really great
steak. Great salads, as well. Features pasta as the accompanying dish.
Portions are very generous, but most important, food is great quality,
i.e., really tasty. Located diagonally across the street from the first
condo dwelling as you drive to Richardson's. Condo is on the left,
restaurant is on the right, i.e., the inland side of the street. Not
cheap--most main courses seem to be in the $25-35 range. Happy Valley Seafood Restaurant This is Hilo's best Chinese restaurant, and the name
"Seafood" is something of a misnomer, since they have a wide selection
of all kinds of Chinese food, with emphasis on the fancier Cantonese
dishes. Located in the Hilo Shopping Center, which is a local "strip"
mall. 1 Plus 1 Cafe This is also located near Wal-Mart and Office Max., but
is just outside the food court. It is a Chinese restaurant--not gourmet
Chinese dishes like Happy Valley, but it's the best place in town for
Chinese noodle dishes, especially the various noodle soups. Lovely "quay
tiao," although they don't call it that.
