We received the following question by email:
Aloha!
I don’t know if you’re willing to help, but I am stumped and figured it doesn’t hurt to ask.
I am staying at Hilton Waikoloa Village for two weeks and in Hilo for 4 days. I have 10 more days on the Big Island. On what parts of the island should I stay? How would you divide 4 weeks on the Big Island?
Your site is so wonderful! Thanks so much!!

Answer:
Michelle, we don’t normally get requests to help plan a full month on the Big Island! That said, we are happy that you are taking plenty of time to visit and explore Hawaii’s biggest island. First, let me refer you to a few of our travel planning articles:
1.) Where to Stay on the Big Island
2.) Big Island Travel Itineraries
Really, it all depends on what attractions you want to see, what activities you want to do, and what climate you prefer. From our “Regions of the Big Island” article, you will see a region-by-region description including temperature and climate, attractions, and things to do. If you are more inclined to spend much of your days relaxing at the beach, we recommend gravitating towards the Kohala Coast. If you are more apt to spending time near the rain-soaked rugged Hamakua Coast or the Volcanoes National Park, then we recommend staying in the Hilo area.
Ultimately, you will likely divide your stay between the Kona and Hilo sides of the island, how much time (50% - 50% or a different ratio) is up to you and the activities you enjoy.

Hi,
I am wanting to plan a vacation to Hawaii with my partner, who has Multiple Sclerosis. Her mobility is limited to a wheelchair or scooter. I’m not sure which island would be best to go to. I need some help here. She doesn’t care if she goes in the water, she has always wanted to go somewhere tropical and she picked Hawaii.
Thanks
